Things to do in New York City
Empire State Building
A staple of the New York City skyline since its completion in 1931, the Empire State Building is perhaps one of the city's most iconic buildings. It is recognized as an American cultural icon, and is one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. The view from the top is one of the best in the city - providing sweeping views of the Statue of Liberty, Central Park and Manhattan. Fun fact: the top of the Empire State Building is often lit with different colored lights, and there is almost always a reason or event behind the colors chosen.
Broadway
With just over 40 Broadway theatres in New York, there’s always a wide range of shows from classics like The Lion King and Wicked to newer hits like Hamilton. While a handful of the shows currently playing have been on Broadway for years, many of them tend to rotate and switch actors and actresses. Be sure to check out hotels in the Times Square area to be within walking distance of the Broadway theatres.
The Met
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has three locations, with The Met Fifth Avenue as its most notable. The museum offers more than 30 different exhibits annually in addition to over 5,000 years of art from all over the world. Pro tip: head to the museum just before sunset and enjoy a drink at the museum’s rooftop bar as you watch the sun dip behind the Central Park trees and skyscraper buildings.
Brooklyn Bridge
Completed in 1883, The Brooklyn Bridge quickly became an icon of the City of New York. As its name suggests, the bridge connects Manhattan and Brooklyn - and is beautiful not just for its iconic construction architecture but also for the view offered from the bridge. Pedestrians and bicyclists alike are easily able to enjoy all the bridge and its parks have to offer!
Staten Island Ferry
Though overwhelming in the summertime, the Staten Island Ferry provides some of the most stunning views of the Statue of Liberty and is free for the public to use. Even if you’re not interested in exploring the island, the boat ride is a nice way to take in the city.
