Things to do in San Francisco

Golden Gate Bridge & Golden Gate Park
A great retreat from the city, Golden Gate Park is larger than Central Park in New York City. This beautiful landmark once consisted of sand dunes and is now most famous for its spectacular gardens and landscapes like the Garden of Shakespeare's Flowers, the Japanese Tea Garden, Strybing Arboretum & Botanical Garden and the Conservatory of Flowers. The drive from Golden Gate Park to the even more iconic Golden Gate Bridge is less than a 10-minute drive.

Union Square & Fisherman’s Wharf
Union Square is home to some of the best restaurants in San Francisco. In the heart of downtown San Francisco, this area is also known for its amazing shopping, hotel and theatre scene. Less than a 15-minute drive north, Fisherman’s Wharf is another great area of town, home to amazing dining, shopping, hotels, and entertainment opportunities. This waterfront area has everything from stalls selling crab and clam chowder to indescribable views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. There’s also several tour opportunities and a colony of sea lions on the shore.

Alcatraz Island
Originally used as a military fort in the 1850s and later home to a maximum security prison, the infamous Alcatraz Island (also known as "The Rock") has been the site for many books, movies and TV shows. You can take a self-guided tour or a fantastic audio tour narrated by ex-convicts as you visit the prison Cell House, the large dining hall, exercise yard, visitation windows and even see Frank Morris's cell.

San Francisco Cable Car
The San Francisco cable car system is not only one of the most iconic staples of San Francisco but is the world's last manually operated cable car system. The idea for the cable car started in 1869 and has been developed ever since. Today, there are three cable car routes in operation: the Powell-Mason line (begins at the Powell/ Market turntable, runs over Nob Hill and down to Bay Street at Fisherman's Wharf), the Powell-Hyde line (begins at the Powell Market turntable, runs over Nob Hill and Russian hills to Aquatic Park near Ghirardelli Square) and the California Street line (runs East-West from the Financial District, through Chinatown, over Nob Hill and stops at Van Ness Avenue).
