Things to do in Raleigh/Durham
Downtown Raleigh
Known for their indie art spaces in the Warehouse District, downtown Raleigh is the creative and cultural heart of North Carolina. From historic neighborhoods and world-class museums to local shops and breweries, there’s something downtown for everyone. About a block from the North Carolina State Capitol, you’ll find the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, which is the largest natural history museum in the southeast. In addition to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh, the city is also home to the North Carolina Museum of Art, which opened in 1956 as one of the first museums in the country formed by state legislation and funding. Less than a 10-minute drive from the downtown area is the state’s oldest public park, Pullen Park. Here, you can rent a paddle boat, ride a carousel, see a play and so much more.
Downtown Durham
Downtown Durham is known for its food, breweries and boutique shops as well as the famous bronze Durham bull sculpture. One of the area’s most exciting museums is the Durham Museum of Life and Science, which spans over 80 acres. Many of the exhibits here are hands-on and the facility is home to over 60 species of live animals. From a dinosaur trail to a butterfly exhibit, this museum has it all.
