About a 20-minute drive from Los Angeles, The Santa Monica Pier is home to some of the most classic California staples. From the iconic Ferris wheel and roller-coaster at the end of the pier to the Route 66 shop and beach rentals, this pier has it all. Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Designed by three different architects over a span of 30 years, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is the largest visual arts museum in the Western U.S. Popular for its great touring exhibitions, evening jazz concerts and film series, this large complex and city landmark features a collection of more than 150,000 pieces including works by Degas, Rembrandt, Hockney, and Monet. Find your way through a labyrinth of galleries showcasing Japanese art, German expressionism, pre-Columbian art and costumes which span the history of art from ancient times to the present. Please note that the museum is closed on Wednesdays.
Los Angeles Lakers
Located in downtown Los Angeles, the Staples Center is home to the Los Angeles Lakers. If you’re a basketball fan, you can catch a game most weeks if you come during the NBA regular season, which runs from October to April.
Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles
The Museum of Contemporary Art has three locations in the Greater Los Angeles area, but the main branch is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, just a short walk from the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Home to thousands of pieces of artwork created since 1940, this modern art museum is also free for children ages 18 and under, so it’s a great way to spend some time with the whole family.
Beverly Hills Farmers Market
If you’re planning on visiting the Hollywood sign, the Los Angeles Zoo or the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, you should add the Beverly Hills Farmers Market to the agenda because it’s right in the area! The outdoor market is open every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and showcases some of California's best seasonal produce, juices, breads and more with over 60 local farmers and vendors. There is also a petting zoo, live music and special events like the annual Pie Bake in June, PickleFest in August and Cookin’ Kids, a workshop held every second Sunday of the month.
